TikTok has begun testing a new opt-in tool designed to help creators identify unauthorized uses of their likeness in AI-generated content. The feature, first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, was confirmed by TikTok US spokesperson Zachary Kizer. The tool is currently being tested with a select group of US-based creators.
Verification and Privacy Measures
Creators participating in the test must first verify their identity through a third-party service called Jumio. This process requires a real-time selfie scan and an ID check. Kizer stated that TikTok does not retain the ID documents and that facial information is strictly used for likeness matching and identifying potential unauthorized uses of a creator's image.
Scanning and Reporting Mechanism
Once verified, TikTok’s system scans the platform for AI-generated content that potentially mimics the creator's likeness. Creators can then review the flagged content and report unauthorized posts or accounts to the company. This move follows a similar initiative by YouTube, which recently expanded its likeness detection tools to all adult users on its platform.
