The release of the iOS 27 public beta marks the first time Apple’s long-promised revamped Siri is available to the general public. Showcased as “Siri AI,” this version expands beyond original voice controls, adding a chatbot-style app and weaving the assistant deeper into the iPhone user experience.

Deep System Integration

Industry analysts note that Siri AI is now a fundamental part of the smartphone’s infrastructure. It is accessible across the entire ecosystem, whether through voice or a dedicated app. The new app serves as an interaction log where users can track past chats. Furthermore, Siri is baked into the iPhone’s search function; swiping down on the screen allows users to type queries directly into a search bar that connects to the AI assistant.

Contextual Awareness via Indexing

A standout feature of Siri AI is its ability to access data across the device to provide personalized answers. Through an on-device indexing process, the iPhone builds a searchable database of the user's context. During testing, the assistant was able to highlight upcoming deliveries mentioned in text messages and suggest movie tickets based on group chat discussions. This allows Siri to pull information from calendars, texts, and photos to act as a truly personal assistant.

Visual Intelligence and Creative Tools

The revamped assistant features onscreen awareness, meaning it can understand and act upon what is currently visible on the user’s display. Apple has also introduced a Siri tab within the camera app for real-time image analysis and context. For communication, the “Write with Siri” tool assists in drafting notes and messages, generating text based on simple prompts that mimics the user's natural style.

Limitations and Privacy Controls

Despite the overhaul, the current beta lacks a permanent "memory" feature for user preferences, such as dietary restrictions. Privacy-conscious users can manage how long conversations are stored (30 days, a year, or forever) and toggle off Siri’s ability to learn from specific apps. Notably, Siri AI has strict hardware requirements, functioning only on iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices.
